Vor einigen Jahren übernahmen Wizards of the Coast die Weiterentwicklung von Magic: The Gathering online von Leaping Lizards. Leider.

Schaut man sich die Screenshots an, sollte klar werden, dass das keine gute Idee war. Der zweite Screenshot schon ist… seltsam, und ab dem vierten wird es richtig wüst.

Bei TheDailyWTF gibt es einen sehr schönen write-up der ganzen Misere, im üblichen WTF-Stil natürlich.

In summary, after four years of development Wizards of the Coast has released a new version of a successful game with fewer features, worse interface, higher system requirements, and unproven scalability. And now that it’s done they’re looking (not very far) for somebody to do it right.

Nämlich im MTGO-Forum:

So I recently received a promotion to Game Dev Manager here at wizards. My first task: hire more people. I’ve had more success in pulling people from the community than I have had hiring random guys that don’t know the games. So here I am looking for you.

Ja, genau. Wir haben gemerkt, dass wir das nicht können, und jetzt suchen wir Leute, die sowas können und MTG(O) kennen und da dachten wir, wir fragen mal Euch, unsere Community. Die Leute, die uns das Arbeitsamt geschickt hat, wussten ja nicht mal, was eine Zecke ist… Nee, so Typen wollen wir nicht. Naja, mir kanns egal sein, ich wurde gerade befördert, und statt zu arbeiten poste ich mal ein bisschen im Forum.

Aktuell arbeitet man daran, die Features erneut einzuführen, die man vor dem Rausschmiß von LL (2003!) hatte und bei der “Weiterentwicklung” selbst nicht hinbekam bzw. verbockte. Und das Interface, da muss man ganz dringend was machen:

I am trying to lead an effort to (and this ties in closely with the first thing I said up top) re-prioritize some of the missing features still outstanding like redemption, leagues, multiplayer, and most importantly, UI stuff. In that vein, we do have a UI expert hired and in-house, and going over the MOL UI for easy quick-fix stuff as well as deeper issues.

OK, genug rant für heute. Muss mal schaun, welche Laus mir heute über die Leber gelaufen ist…
